My new fave cookie recipe, ceramics as functionable artwork, my buttery mood board, and a gorgeous home in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
The Whatever Letter is a weekly collection of things I'm buying, making and loving, loosely tied together with the common thread of great design.
I spent the last week in Tulum and let me tell you, the comedown is REAL. No better way to soothe my introduction back to reality than by looking at beautiful things on the internet and avoiding the winter world outside right? 🙃
I made these cookies to freeze and give to a pal, but I obv had to taste test them myself. And let me tell you - these are my new IT cookie. The pistachio/halva/ chocolate chunk combo feels so fancy, and because most of the pistachios are made into a flour and blended right into the dough, they have a really great texture and depth of flavour. Plus they are GORG. Look at her!
I find that whenever I’m baking, it’s because I want something now so these were on my list for a while, waiting for a day I felt like I had the patience to wait for the 3 hour-overnight* refrigeration.
*way better results, don’t give in, just wait lol.
Let’s talk about everyday pieces that toe the line between functional and art. Here are some serving/drinkware ceramics I’ve fallen in love with that are truly masterpieces, IMHO. An investment in culture, if you will. Tell me how the open shelving in my kitchen is different than a gallery wall?
Via LeFleurArtisan on Etsy, Catherine Rex via Leif Shop, pendant light by Virginia Sin, and my favourite piece I own, a commissioned tile glaze bowl for me by Jenna Archer.
On the subject of art, I’m also going to leave this butter candle sculpture by Aria McManus here.
Furthermore, on the subject of BUTTER, I’m truly in a butter yellow phase.
It’s on my mind a LOT, probably because I’m clinging to the sunshine of last week. Consider this your summer microdose. I even made a moodboard about it in case you feel like joining me through dopamine dressing/drinking your coffee out of something cute.
Everlane alpaca toque, Ekua Ceramics mug, JW Anderson twister bag (what a DREAM), Ganni tee, RL wool + cashmere sweater, my sweater pictured on me above is Sonderhaus!
I’ve been obsessed with this house located in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec.
It all started with this Dwell Article a while back, and then I saw the house was for sale this year, and then I was picturing what my whole life would be if I summered there; taking morning walks along those cliffs, eating seafood every dinner, and next thing you know I was Googling flights (spoiler alert, not that easy or fast from Toronto). Idyllic! Beachy! I love it there and I’ve never even been. Look at this HOUSE.
Okay! Now a song for you and that’s all I got.
Have a great day :)
